Family friendly days out in Kent Here’s how to enjoy a day out in Kent with the whole family. And yes, wine tours are included…

With summer approaching, there’ll be lots of opportunities to get out and about with the family. Whether you’re a Kent native or visiting from afar, there’s so much to see and do in the Garden of England that you’ll never get bored. We also (apparently) get more sunshine in this corner of the country than any other…although perhaps don’t ditch the wellies and waterproofs just yet – it is British summertime, after all!

After a tough year of missing out on special experiences with friends and family, hopefully this summer will be the opportunity to finally reconnect with loved ones and start making up for lost time by creating new memories. And, if you need some inspiration for where to head with the family to make the most of your summer in Kent, then we can help.

You might wonder why we’re talking about family friendly activities when we’re in the business of showcasing Kent’s finest wines and wineries. But, while our Kent wine tours and tastings can be the perfect adult experience to explore vintages and vines, did you know that during weekdays we allow children to join our private wine tours? When accompanied by an adult, of course! So, there’s no reason to put a cork in coming on one of our wine tours – bring the family along! Children are priced at 50% of an adult ticket, and kids under 12 also get an activity pack to keep them entertained while you’re sipping and savouring!

Our tours explore some of Kent’s best vineyards, including the likes of Chapel Down, Hush Heath, Gusbourne, Biddenden Vineyard, Woodchurch Vineyard, Herbert Hall, Squerryes and Simpsons Wine Estate. These fabulous locations aren’t to be missed, and their wines are spectacular. So, if you’re looking for a luxury day out where you can bring the whole family along, we’d love to welcome you on a tour. Get in touch with us so we can start making that Kent escape a reality.

Whether you’re on a summer staycation, escaping city life for a countryside retreat or live locally but are seeking something new to do, in addition to our wine tours, we’ve also rounded up some of our favourite family friendly days out in Kent, so that you can really make the most of your trip and experience the best Kent has to offer.

Port Lympne Reserve

Animal lovers won’t want to miss the amazing Port Lympne Reserve. With over 900 rare and endangered animals to discover, get up close with elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, monkeys and more. There’s luxury accommodation available for those looking for something special, eateries that cater for the whole family and play parks, the Dinosaur Forest, a maze and animal talks to keep you entertained all day. You can even buy a season pass so you can keep coming back all year to relive the fun.

Kent & East Sussex Railway

A stone’s throw from some of our incredible vineyards, the Kent & East Sussex Railway takes you on a journey back in time. Board a carriage on one of their steam trains, and be transported through the Kent and Sussex countryside. As you travel along 10.5 miles of historic railway, why not make the most of the local attractions too? Visit Bodiam Castle, or stop for lunch and a stroll through the picturesque market town of Tenterden.

Hever Castle & Gardens

Once home to Anne Boleyn, a visit to Hever Castle & Gardens is a fun and educational day out for the whole family. As well as exploring the castle itself and the beautiful grounds, there’s lots to see and do all year round too. Splash about in the water maze, see the miniature model houses and spend hours playing in the many adventure playgrounds on offer – including the Tudor Towers adventure playground which boasts a wooden castle 9 metres tall!

Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest

For outdoorsy types looking for a day of adventure, head to Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest. There’s over 12,000 tree species to discover, but that’s not all – there’s also a Gruffalo trail, Go Ape for the thrillseekers in the family, play areas, horse riding, bike hire, wonderful walks…and of course, a cafe where you can refuel after all that adventure!

Kent Life

When it comes to fun for all the family, Kent Life really has it all. There’s indoor play areas for when the weather’s not playing ball, pedal tractors, a bouncy castle, live shows, beautiful gardens…and let’s not forget the farm where you’ll find sheep, pigs, goats, horses, donkeys and more. There’s even Cuddle Corner where you can meet some of the smaller farmyard animals. We reckon you’ll have to go back because you’ll struggle to fit all the excitement into one day.

Riverhill Himalayan Gardens

With stunning views for miles around, a trip to Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is perfect for families looking for a relaxed, picturesque day out. The award-winning gardens offer lots of activities for kids, from den building and the adventure playground to the hedge maze and…yeti spotting! Bring a picnic and admire the glorious gardens and those panoramic views from one of the highest vantage points in the county.

The Historic Dockyard, Chatham

For a fascinating family day out with history galore, head to Chatham’s Historic Dockyard, where you can explore historic warships, enjoy talks and for fans of Call The Midwife there’s even a tour to show you where all your favourite scenes were filmed. As well as all the ship fun, for kids there’s lots of things to try – like ringing the bell on the deck of a WWII Destroyer. Oh, and there’s the all important indoor and outdoor play areas too.
